Protecting High-Risk Individuals

High-Risk Individual Protection
Mobile Surveillance Defense

Project Overview

A government ministry needed to protect senior officials, including ministers and their direct staff, from targeted mobile surveillance and social engineering. Intelligence reporting indicated adversary interest in the ministry's communications. Devices included both iOS and Android, used for both personal and official communication. Factor was engaged to deploy silent, privacy-respecting protection that would not require device re-enrollment or user behavior change.

Challenges

  1. High-profile targets with confirmed adversary interest in their communications.
  2. Mix of personal and official device use with no existing mobile security controls.
  3. Requirement for silent operation — no visible security app that could indicate monitoring.
  4. Sensitive nature of deployment required zero data leaving the country.
  5. Users were non-technical and resistant to any change in their device experience.

Solutions

  1. Deployed MTAD silently on all target devices without disrupting existing usage patterns.
  2. On-device processing ensured no communication data ever left the device or country.
  3. Detected two active spyware indicators within the first week of deployment.
  4. 24/7 security team monitoring with direct escalation protocol for officials.
  5. Briefed security staff on threat indicators and established incident response procedures for mobile-specific events.
